Our story

We make the things that get handed down.

Somewhere along the way, furniture became disposable. Flat-packed, photographed well, gone in five years. Most homes today are full of things that no one will ever want to keep.

Oak & Ash exists to make the other kind of thing. The table the grandkids fight over. The cutting board that shows forty years of knife work like rings in a tree. The chess set that taught three generations how to lose gracefully.

Every piece we make starts as rough-sawn hardwood — white oak, black walnut, hard maple — and gets cut, joined, and finished by hand, one commission at a time. No production runs. No inventory sitting in a warehouse. When you order from us, your piece doesn’t exist yet. That’s the point.

It takes longer this way. Mortise-and-tenon joints take longer than cam locks. Hand-rubbed oil takes longer than spray lacquer. Wood picked board by board takes longer than veneer by the mile. We think the next fifty years are worth the next six weeks.
